Why this is happening
Most independents on Paymentsense, Dojo or Worldpay assumed their rates were competitive and never broke them down. The blended numbers on a quarterly statement hide what is actually being charged on debit, credit and business cards — and the gap between those rates and what an interchange-plus deal costs is widest for low-ticket hospitality.
Rate rises mid-contract are the second pain point. Several recently switched merchants moved after a 0.10% to 0.30% hike applied without warning, despite a fixed-term contract.

Questions we get a lot
- Do I have to change my till or POS?
- No. Clover Flex sits alongside your existing till, or replaces it if you would like — either way, your menu and reporting are not touched on the till.
- What about my existing contract?
- Most Paymentsense, Dojo and Worldpay contracts have break clauses inside the fixed term — we look at the wording before you commit to switching. There is no point quoting you a saving you can't take.
- Can you fix the rate so I am not hit by a mid-term rise?
- Yes. Our standard merchant agreement guarantees no rate increases for the duration of the contract — your savings stay banked.
- Buffets, weddings and offsite catering?
- Card-not-present revenue from catering does need to be declared during onboarding so the right risk profile is set up. We walk you through that once your statement comes back.
- How long does the switch take?
- From signed agreement to new terminal on the counter is typically five to ten business days. We schedule the cutover for a quiet trading window.
