Free houses & independent pubs

Card fees · Independent advice

Dojo is renting you the box and the rate. We will show you both.

For free houses, independent country pubs and gastropubs — send us a recent statement and we will come back the same day with a side-by-side comparison against Clover. Indicative 20–35% saving on card processing depending on your mix.

Why this is happening

Dojo and Worldpay are the most common acquirers in independent pubs. Both sell the terminal rental and the processing on a single bundled rate; what arrives on the statement looks competitive only because the components are not broken out.

Most pubs we move across save more on the hidden side — terminal rental, authorisation fees, the difference between debit and credit card rates — than on the headline rate. The bigger lift comes from putting interchange-plus pricing on commercial cards, which independent pubs see disproportionately from supplier and trade payments.

What we do for pubs

  • Read every line of the statement

Debit, credit, commercial cards, auth fees, terminal rental, PCI levies — separated out so you can see what is actually being charged.

  • Quote in writing, same day

No discovery call needed. Statement in, like-for-like comparison out. You decide whether the saving is enough to switch.

  • Switch without till disruption

Clover Flex sits alongside your existing till or replaces the Dojo box. Wi-Fi or 4G, pour-and-pay at the table, integrated card and contactless on one device.

Questions from pubs

We are a tied-house pub. Can we switch?
Probably not. If you are tied to Punch Taverns, Stonegate, Greene King, Mitchells & Butlers, City Pub Co or similar, the parent group usually controls the card-payment contract. We focus on free houses and unaffiliated pubs — if you tell us your group during the enquiry, we will say up front whether a switch is possible.
Will the new terminal work for table service?
Yes. Clover Flex is hand-held, takes orders and payments at the table, runs on Wi-Fi or 4G, and pairs with a kitchen printer if you want orders fired straight through. The team carries the device; the bar stays clear.
What about my existing Dojo contract?
Most Dojo and Worldpay contracts have break clauses inside the fixed term — we look at the wording before you commit. There is no point quoting you a saving you cannot take.
Will my rate go up after a few months?
Our standard contract guarantees no rate increases for the duration of the agreement. The headline saving you are quoted is the rate you keep — interchange changes pass through (they are set by the schemes, not by us) but our spread does not.
How fast is the switch?
Five to ten business days from signed agreement to terminal on the bar. We schedule the cutover for a quiet trading window so you do not lose a sitting.
