Shopify cost reduction

Ecommerce processing

Shopify Payments is the most expensive part of your stack.

For UK Shopify merchants doing £10,000+ a month on cards — you can move to a mainstream acquirer on interchange-plus pricing, keep your existing checkout and theme, and pay significantly less per order. Send us three months of payout reports and we will model the delta in writing.

Why this is happening

Shopify Payments charges a blended rate that hides what is actually being paid on debit, credit and commercial cards. It is brilliant for a £1,000-a-month store; it is the most expensive thing on the stack by the time you are doing £10,000 a month.

The fix is to move to a mainstream UK acquirer on interchange-plus pricing while keeping the Shopify checkout, theme and integrations. The merchant sees no change at the checkout; the store-owner sees the difference on the monthly statement.

How the switch works

  • Onsite checkout — no rebuild

Customers stay on your Shopify store. The processor changes underneath; the checkout flow does not.

  • Faster auth, fewer false declines

Mainstream acquirers run more sophisticated risk-scoring than Shopify Payments. The visible result is fewer false declines on high-AOV orders and better authorisation rates on international cards.

  • Rate guaranteed for the contract term

No mid-term re-price. The headline rate you sign on is the rate you keep — interchange changes pass through but our spread does not move.

Questions from Shopify merchants

Will my checkout change at all?
No. Customers see the same checkout, the same Shop Pay options, the same Apple Pay / Google Pay buttons. The card-data flow is what changes underneath — same UX, different acquirer.
What about Shop Pay?
Shop Pay is a Shopify-owned wallet that sits in front of the acquirer. It continues to work; customer card tokens stay where they are. We confirm the exact mechanics during the quote.
How much do I need to be doing on cards to make the switch worthwhile?
Roughly £10,000 per month is the threshold where the saving outweighs the integration work. Below that, the difference is small and Shopify Payments is fine. Above that, the math starts working in your favour and the gap widens with volume.
What payout reports do you need?
Three months of Shopify payout reports plus a summary of which cards (debit / credit / Amex / international) make up your mix. The Shopify admin exports them in a few clicks. We rebuild your cost on interchange-plus from there.
Are you Shopify-certified?
We work with Shopify checkout integrations regularly but are not on Shopify's "preferred partner" list. The setup uses Shopify's standard third-party-processor flow — nothing custom, nothing brittle.
